PGP is a popular1 way to send secure messages. It is however quite difficult to get started and to know what everything means. Since most people aren’t cryptography experts, it’s hard to get going and use it every day.

The best PGP tutorial for Mac OS X is a tutorial to change the technical hurdle required to get started, and makes encrypting and decrypting messages super simple.

There is just one thing that the article fails to mention. While using keyboard shortcuts are great for power users, they can be quite daunting for others, and are easily forgettable. There is however an easy way to access the shortcuts using the mouse as well. Like before, select the text you want to encrypt or decrypt, right-click and choose “Services” and you will see all relevant actions with the “OpenPGP:” prefix. Just select the action you want to perform and it takes care of the rest.

If you want to try it out, you are welcome to send me an email to my first name @ my last name dot se.

  1. I use the term “popular” loosely here, since although it’s quite popular in the tech crowd, its quirky setup and confusing usage has made it less appealing for “normal” people.
